KITEBOARDING PROGRESSION


Here is a basic list of the skills you will learn when taking lessons. These skills are listed in the order they are taught. Hopefully this will give you an idea of the format for the lessons. The goal is to become a Safe Independent Kiteboarder.

  • Fly the trainer kite
  • Kite setup
  • Understand and activate the kite safety systems
  • How to pick a spot to practice and kite awareness
  • Bodydrag behind the kite
  • Kite relaunch
  • Untwist the lines while flying the kite
  • Bodydrag while flying the kite with one hand
  • Bodydrag upwind
  • Land and Launch the kite with an assistant
  • Kite recovery (killing the kite power and stopping)
  • Self Rescue
  • Bodydrag with the board
  • Bodydrag back to the board when separated from it
  • Putting the board on
  • First waterstarts
  • First rides!
  • Self rescue with the board
  • Edging
  • Transitions (changing direction)
  • Riding upwind
  • Jumping

Kiteboarding is fun to learn. Everyone learns differently so each lesson is specific to the needs of the student. The above list is just an overview of things taught in the lessons.

A Safe Independent Kiteboarder is someone who does not need help from an instructor to go kiteboarding. They are able to practice on their own and safely handle the kite.
All the lessons are designed to get you to this point.
